Magnitude 5.9 Strikes NORTHEASTERN SAKHA, RUSSIA

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurred in NORTHEASTERN SAKHA, RUSSIA on June 22, 2008.  This earthquake  damaged buildings and left many homeless in the remote city of Sakhalin, Russia.

Earthquake in GREECE recorded by BC-ESP

On June 8, 2008 a magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in GREECE and was recorded by BC-ESP seismographs. The earthquake occurred at 12:25UTC time. The P wave arrived at our BC-ESP seismographs at 12:36UTC time.

This strong earthquake struck southwestern Greece (35KM SW of Patras) killing at least two people, injuring more than 100 and leveling dozens of homes. The shaking was felt in most parts of Greece, as well as southern Italy, and is the most destructive earthquake to strike Greece since 1999. A number of aftershocks have also occurred following this recorded earthquake.

On June 3, 2008 the magnitude 6.2 SOLOMON ISLANDS and magnitude 6.0 FLORES REGION, INDONESIA earthquakes were recorded on the BC-ESP EQ1 seismograph at Weston Observatory.

Below is a seismogram from the magnitude 6.5 MACQUARIE ISLAND, AUSTRALIA earthquake recorded at St. Peter School Cambridge, MA. The earthquake occurred on June 1, 2008 at 14:31 UTC time. The first P wave arrived at our BC-ESP seismographs at 14:50 UTC time and the Surface waves can be seen at 15:46 UTC time.
