The Instructional Designer's role is to help faculty members identify technology which can enhance teaching, and apply it in a way that will best meet their educational goals. This assistance covers many areas, from customizing the features in Blackboard Vista to digitizing video material and creating database resources. When a faculty member collaborates with Instructional Design and eTeaching Services on a special project, usually one of the Instructional Designers will serve as the project manager. They also offer consultations on an individual basis as well as with departments and groups, and lead workshops on commonly used programs and tools on a regular basis. To ensure that the practices followed at Boston College are as current and effective as possible, Instructional Designers are constantly exploring, assessing and recommending new technologies.
